Tulia Kumekucha Project
The project utilizes street murals and photography exhibitions to combat stigma that surrounds mental health conditions in people in Tanzania. The project collaborates with street artists to create powerful mental health color Psychology on accessible Mural Arts placed in high traffic areas targeting young people of age 13-24. By harnessing the captivating power of street murals and photography exhibitions, the project aims to spark open conversations, counter the deeply ingrained misconceptions surrounding mental health, and cultivate a culture of proper/true understanding of mental health struggles among young people. This innovative project directly addresses a critical knowledge gap among the Tanzania community. Limited access and relevant youth-oriented mental health education plays negatively to efforts of combating harmful cultural norms that perpetuate stigma and prevent young people from seeking essential help. More details, approved and obtained consents are available on ShangaaShangaa, shangaa2025 and Shangaatz hashtag on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok consecutively
